Merry NICU Christmas

I wrote a poem on Christmas Eve during Henry’s 2am feeding session (I’m not usually one for poetry but for some reason this just popped into my head and I wanted to share!). Thinking of all the families calling the NICU home at Christmas:

Merry Christmas to all from us to you, Spare a thought tonight for those in the NICU. Whether just been born or a few months old Parents will be there longing to hold, But tonight they'll be leaving their babies behind And they maybe won't have their peace of mind. Returning tomorrow they just want to be here Where nurses and doctors bring festive cheer. Mum pumping milk throughout the night, Next year will be different, a hopeful new sight. But for now worried parents dare not dream; A faraway fleeting hope that must seem. Merry Christmas to all from us to you, Spare a thought tonight for those in the NICU.
